IMPORTANT NOTE:
  • For Double-D connections at the column a small dimple should be drilled into the shaft at the set screw locations to insure proper seating of the set screws. First install the universal joint to the depth shown in Figure B and mark set screw locations. Remove universal joint from column shaft and drill a small dimple into shaft at locations marked. Reinstall universal joint to depth shown in figure B. Tighten the set screws into the seat and then tighten the lock nuts.
About Borgeson
At Diesel Power Products we not only sell Borgeson steering shafts we run them on our own trucks. They are a huge improvement over the stock shaft and will eliminate the shortcomings of the stock set-up permanently. BORGESON Universal heavy-duty replacement shafts are a vast improvement over OEM and can take anything you throw at them. They are so sure they will outlast your truck that they give you a Five Year Warranty

Borgeson assembly is so much better than stock because of the precision, zero-play, sealed needle bearing U-joint machined from a solid steel billet. It's not a cheap stamping like the OEM. Borgeson steering shafts telescope for easy installation and are permanently lubed and sealed. The telescoping shaft easily handles misalignment from body-lifts and extreme off-roading.

Most OEM shafts have similar couple/flex-joint design, so we now have replacement shafts for Dodge, Chevy/GMC. Ford and Jeep. Some feature a vibration reducer to isolate road shock. Installation is easily done with common hand tools. The tight feel of the BORGESON steering shaft assembly will transform the truck! Borgeson has been making the finest automotive, aerospace and industrial U-joints available since 1914.

You can find BORGESON universal joints on the fastest racing machines and hottest street rods in the world including:
  • NASCAR stock cars
  • Indy Cars
  • Drag Cars
  • Dirt Modifieds
  • Road Racing
  • Off-road Racers and more!
Wherever high performance, heavy duty, reliable steering components are demanded, BORGESON is there. All BORGESON truck steering assemblies are proudy made in the USA and carry a five year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

For your diesel truck this translates into a much tighter steering feel that will last. We have seen play in the sector shaft with as little as 5000 miles on a new truck. These shafts are a must for anybody with a diesel running tires ANY larger than stock.

Great steering shaft. Very good

"Great steering shaft. Very good Quality and easy to install. Very safe and a high end product. Perfect fit with my red head steering box."

Ricky E. (5/5)

I am beyond disappointed in

"I am beyond disappointed in this steering shaft. $300 and I'm about ready to put the stock one with 200k back on. My truck went from a joy to drive to pulling me all over the road. To male matters worse the shaft only fits on the steering colum in 1 direction with is keeping me from being able to center my steering box. Just save yourself the aggravation and buy a stock replacement"

Justin F. (1/5)

Steering Shaft 98. 5 Cummins

"Good quality shaft, but like others have commented it really should be painted/powder coated. For the money, really deserves some sort of corrosion prevention. U-Joints are solid and pretty easy install minus the 1-2 hours to paint."

Brandon B. (4/5)

Easy installation, I haven't driven

"Easy installation, I haven't driven the truck yet, but from what I can feel in the steering wheel it feels tight and very responsive, excited to get the truck done so I can drive it."

Jimmy E. (5/5)

Showed up in a timely

"Showed up in a timely manner. Fit the truck just as the ad says. Tightened up the slip in the steering."

Richard H. (5/5)

I think the shaft is

"I think the shaft is good. But the splines on it didn’t have the same as the new gear box like the shaft had sharper splines and the new gear box had duller looking splines. we had to beat it on with a little sledge hammer I’m sure it shouldn’t of been that had at all."

Corey A. (3/5)

Problem solved!

"Been having this “road wander” for a while now. After replacing basically everything in the front end, installing the steering brace, track bar and whatnot, I decided to check out the steering shaft itself. Old one was an old dorman brand with rag joint. Replaced it with this borgeson one, and virtually all my road wander is gone! Very happy with my purchase."

Kyle B. (5/5)

Well designed upgrade

"Definite upgrade from factory design. Easy installation and definitely good addition to any truck with high miles or wear issues."

Rod H. (5/5)

Wanderer

"Very well built and not to bad to install but this with a box brace still didn't cure wandering problems. Have replaced everything else, now on to new control arms."

Anthony P. (5/5)

Perfect fit

"Installed your steering shaft and eliminated the wandering that the factory shaft was causing. Am very Impressed with the precision engineering and excellent Construction of the borginson steering shaft. I will be purchasing all my aftermarket products from you from now on. My 99 cummins has many upgrades and plan to Get more as this beast was a barn find with 87,000 miles on her. You don’t find jewels like this very often and plan to keep her forever. Thanks for you quality products and Excellent customer service! Ted Gaskins"

Q&A

Are there any modifications needed to install this part or is it a direct fit? Truck is a 2002 ram 2500 5.9l
Direct fit. -MC
any reason why this would not fit onto a 99 Ram 1500?
No, that will fit that application. SNA
Part#BG-000950 Will this part fit a 1997 Dodge B2500 Van with a 5.2 engine ?
This unit will not, these are designed only for pickup applications.
Hello, I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins. A problem I have recently run into is when I purchased a stock replacement that supposedly fit my truck by VIN, I found that one of the slip joints was simply a slide on unit with two flats. My truck requires a steering shaft that has splines inside both ends of the shaft, rather than just the steering gearbox side. I was wondering if your steering shaft was a splined slip joint on both ends, or also only has one splined joint. Thank you, Sam
Depending on your year, to our knowledge the early 94-95 model trucks do use the splined versions. Please see that product if your truck falls under that.
