The Mega-Flo S-3 is a precision, permanent mold, aluminum casting. Casting via permanent mold and then heat treating gives the Mega-Flo S-3 superior material density. The permanent mold process also offers a great finish for colored powdercoat finishes.
To maximize internal flow area, the #1 injector line relief is cast in as a solid boss. This allows GDP to finish machine the relief slot for tight tolerance and low interior protrusion. During final machining, all interior bosses are reduced to the absolute minimum needed for injector line clearance. From a design standpoint, the Mega-Flo S-3 intake manifold is a perfect blend of fit, form and function.
Two things are at play with this intake system, pressure and velocity. The flaring design of the Mega-Flo S-3 causes an increase in cross sectional area as the incoming air charge approaches the plenum area. The increased area slows the air velocity and increases the pressure. This is important because low velocity air has less drag as it encounters obstructions like the sharp turn into the plenum area. For example, the same thing happens at the entrance to the intercooler. The small pipe expands to the huge volume of the intercooler. This accomplishes two things. First, it slows the air down so that all of the tiny intercooler passages don't cause unnecessary drag. Second, it increases the pressure of the air so it can transfer heat more efficiently. For maximum airflow you need to look at the system as a whole.
The Mega-Flo S-3 was designed with a "perfect arc" in mind. Other designs include unnecessarily tight bends and flat walls. The Mega-Flo S-3 design eliminates the tight bends and flat walls found in other manifolds. Designs that require the air to make nearly a 90° turn against a flat face drastically reduce flow.
To lower restriction even further, this features a 5 bolt mounting design. This design eliminates the pass thru boss needed for the 6th bolt and allows for the cross sectional area to open even further. Some 5 bolt manifold designs allow "gasket creep" which causes intake manifold gasket failure under boost. To eliminate this, the gasket retainer boss for the 6th bolt location is left in place during final machining. This boss captures the gasket and eliminates gasket creep due to thermal expansion cycles.
For accessories, such as boost gauges, water/meth, or nitrous, the Mega-Flo S-3 is ready. On the back, there are five 1/8" NPT ports(see image above) which will cover all of your additions, with room to grow down the road.

NOTE: This system eliminates the factory Throttle Control Valve located at the base of the stock intake manifold. Because of this, this intake manifold must be used in conjunction with a DPF delete style programmer to avoid check engine lights and limp mode situations.
