Do you experience low fuel pressure at wide open throttle after installing an aftermarket electric lift pump? Unfortunately, this is all too common, but we have the fix. The problem stems from the factory overflow valve having too large of an orifice, which causes excessive fuel to be returned to the fuel tank. The inlet orifice on a standard overflow valve will flow 1.14 GPM back to the tank. If you are running a 100 GPH pump, you are pumping 1.66 GPM, which means you are losing 69% of your pump volume through the stock overflow valve. Seeing these numbers makes it fairly obvious why there is a significant power loss at higher RPM.

We offer this simple and effective overflow valve in four different sizes, so which one is right for you?

The general rule to determine the fuel pressure you should be at is to multiply the governor spring RPM (in thousands) by 10. In other words, you want 10 PSI of fuel pressure per 1000 RPM of governor speed. So, if you installed a 3K governor spring kit, you need a minimum of 30 PSI at full power, a 4K kit requires 40 PSI at WOT, and 5K equates to 50 PSI at WOT.

  • The OFV040HP has the largest orifice for street use. This valve is for lightly modified street performance trucks in the 275 to 350 horsepower range running an AirDog or FASS pump. Fuel pressure will range between 30 to 37 PSI.
  • The OFV050HP has the second largest orifice for street use. This valve is for moderately modified street performance trucks in the 350 to 450 horsepower range using an AirDog or FASS pump. Fuel pressure is in the 37 to 45 PSI range, at full power.
  • The OFV060HP has the third smallest orifice for highly modified Cummins diesel engines. This valve is for heavily modified street performance trucks in the 500 to 600 horsepower range using an AirDog or FASS pump. Fuel pressure will be in the 43 to 50 PSI range, at full power.
  • The OFV075HP has the smallest orifice, and is NOT for street use, because it will not provide adequate long term cooling to the pump.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not use the HP valve on a stock fuel system! The valve is intended for P pump trucks using a FASS, Air Dog or high volume, performance fuel pump only.
