Carli Complete Suspension Kits

When researching options to improve the ride quality of your truck and install a mild lift for larger tire fitment, its likely you’ve come across the name Carli Suspension. Its hard to label a Carli suspension system as a “lift kit” as, for many, that term necessitates a rougher ride in order to achieve added lift height. However, in Carli terms, the truck is radically transformed in its offroad capabilities, but even its daily driver street manners, all while giving an aggressive stance using nothing but the finest of materials to complete the upgrade.

Carli’s line of complete suspension kits are fully engineered and seat-of-the-pants tested to deliver a truck that will handle itself as comfortably on a rough trail as on smooth tarmac while taking into account every detail to deliver proper alignment for precision steering and added tire clearance. With Carli, you will find no corners cut, just the highest quality products that thousands have come to expect.

As you’re browsing the various options, you may notice a trend. Most vehicles have two lift heights available, typically one that levels the front end possibly with some added rear lift, and another that does indeed lift the entire vehicle. Within each amount of lift you’ll find a handful of “series” of kits, such as a Starter Kit, Backcountry, Pintop, Dominator, and more. Each of these kits grows on the capabilities of the kits depending on how you plan to use your truck. Are you planning to keep your truck on the street and looking mostly for an improved ride quality using top notch components? Great, then a Starter or Commuter Kit will suit you perfectly. Or maybe you’ll be doing a little bit of everything, then a Pintop is probably the best option for you. And for those that will be heading to the dunes on the weekends and using your diesel powered truck like a side-by-side, no problem, but you’d better step up to the Dominator or an Unchained Kit.

But what happens if you started off thinking you’d only need a Commuter Kit and realized you need one of the more off-road oriented systems? No problem at all. Most of Carli’s systems, as long as you’re staying within the same amount of lift height, will typically only require changing the shocks. Sure, some kits will necessitate the truck having the Full Progressive Leaf Springs versus Add-A-Packs, but ultimately it’s the same coil springs, sway bar end links, track bar, and so forth.

We get a lot of calls and e-mails each day with various product, vehicle, and installation questions. Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions regarding Carli Suspension Systems that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: I'm looking at a few different Carli kits for my truck and I've landed on the Pintop system, but financially not quite ready. Is it possible to go with a Starter kit and later upgrade some of the components without replacing everything?
A: Absolutely, that's why Carli calls it a Starter kit! For the most part, as long as you're in the same lift height family, such as 3", the only thing that needs to be changed between systems are the shocks. The systems will use the same coil springs, leaf springs, sway bar end links, etc. What you will need to look at is whether the introductory system includes all of the components, such as a track bar that may need added. Overall, its very common practice to start out with all of the basic components, and then build from there.

Q: Why doesn't Carli make any larger lift options like other manufacturers?
A: Ultimately, a huge lift will vastly degrade the ride quality of the truck, which isn't the intention of Carli Suspension. Their goal is to add a respectable amount of lift height that in turn will allow for larger tire fitment (increasing your axle's clearance for obstacles), but deliver a system that can properly cycle its suspension for offroad use, deliver a better ride quality, and last the life of the truck. Oh yeah, and still allow you to use your truck as a truck!

Q: I am adding a Carli system and would like then added benefits of running their Full Progressive Leaf Springs, but I have air bags to help with squatting when I'm towing, can I still use my airbags?
A: Yes, you can use them, but if left how they are, you will be limiting the amount of wheel travel you can achieve, thus not fully achieving the best ride quality that the system is trying to offer. But the good news is that you have options. First, Carli offers their Long Travel Air Bags that are a great option as they function like a traditional airbag, but offer substantially more travel due to their design. This works by having a bag that essentially folds over on itself, but when the axle droops, it allows full travel. Another option that is popular are "air bag buckets" such as those offered by Daystar. This system takes your existing air bags and disconnects them from the lower mounting point, and adding in opposing "buckets" that the bucket will rest into at normal ride height. Lastly, a company called Full Travel Bags offers airbags that have a quick connect/disconnect that allows you to quickly remove the lower mount when you're not towing to allow for unhindered down travel and vastly improved uptravel.
