The Colt Cams Stage 4 Camshaft redefines your Cummins in a way you may not have thought possible. This cam shaft completely replaces your stock shaft with a brand new billet version. Designed, tested, and created at Colt Cams, the shaft requires no modifications or valve lift like other after market cams. Instead it fits directly into the existing stock location and gives your 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins the strongest mid-range torque and horsepower possible. Unlike other brands, Colt Cams creates shafts that also improve lower end power to keep you truck powerful no matter the RPM range.
While no modifications are necessary to accommodate the new billet Big Stick Camshaft, we do highly recommend using new or re-crowned lifters. For 94-98 Cummins choose the Mahle lifters, while 98.5-12 Cummins owners should choose the Colt Cams Tappet Set.
After more than 50 different combinations of durations, lobe separation, and installed centerlines Colt Cams was able to produce the Big Stick Camshaft for your 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins. The result of the tireless tests is a shaft that offers your engine the best mid-range horsepower and torque while still producing significantly more high and low end power. The secret behind the the cams--ramp velocity and acceleration.
While most aftermarket camshafts excel at proving more mid to high RPM power very few are able to increase low RPM power, and in most cases forget about this entirely. For this reason Colt Cams engineered a camshaft that produces more power all around, rather than just in higher RPMs. They were able to do this by creating a Tri-Flow system that staggers the opening times of the intake lobes creating a swirl in the system. By opening valves progressively the Colt Cams shaft will give your Cummins all the power it deserves no matter the RPM range.
Note: Most oil companies have taken out a percentage of additives that are meant for anti-scuffing for break in on flat tappet cams, so please ask your local auto parts professional for the best zinc additive they have and add it to your oil before you fire up your engine for the first time. (We recommend ZDD Plus.)
