Upon installation of a programmer in the LML and L5P Duramax's, many will experience sluggish shifts and inadequate power being made through the transmission. The fix that many tuning companies offer is TCM (Transmission Control Module) tuning to increase the demanded line pressure, but what about those that don't have the option for separate TCM tuning? That's where this simple to install, inexpensive solenoid fooler comes into play.
In factory form, the stock Allison transmission runs at a measly 80 psi of line pressure and kicks up to 230 for shifting gears. The 80 psi has been proven to be insufficient when even the least amount of power is added which is why many custom tuning companies offer optional TCM tuning which cranks up the static line pressure. But for those without custom tuning, how do you reap the benefits? This simple fooler plug takes the place of the factory EPC solenoid in your valve body to make the transmission run at a static 230PSI and ramp up to 280 off idle to aid in power transfer at take off.
In order to install, you merely need to drop the pan and remove the factory EPC Solenoid and relocate it into the back of the Fooler Plug, then install the plug back into the factory location. Slap the pan back on, fill with fluid, and you're done.
IMPORTANT NOTE: GRP's product line was originally intended for installation shops and to be purchased in bulk quantity, which in turn means that there are no installation instructions that come with any of their products. We feel that this compromise is easily countered with the exceptional craftsmanship that goes into these kits, as well as the price point. If you are unsure of how to install any of their components, but still want to tackle the job yourself, there are plenty of generic installation videos available online that will allow you to still take advantage of the benefits of purchasing GRP.
