The factory 6.0L turbo initially had several design flaws that caused premature failure, which resulted in a notorious issue for Ford, and major problems for 6.0L owners with down trucks. Many of the issues resulted from improper tolerances that caused the sliding ring to freeze up, making the truck have no bottom end response, acting like an oversized turbo. Fortunately, Ford was able to correct most of the issues on their replacement turbos, but if you never replaced with one of their upgrades while under warranty, they are grossly expensive to source from the dealer.
