They should stop using metal in these filters
It's a good filter, but for some weird reason, Baldwin decided to use steel on the engine side of the filter. So, after 10,000 miles, I pulled the filter and there was rust everywhere. My WIF light never came on, and I tested that it works fine too. I just hope that rust didn't destroy my injectors. If they start using plastic like oem, I'll purchase their filters once more.

Good product - as good/better than OEM
Fits well - like that it is 5 micron - very good particulate level filtering. As an aircraft mechanic, our hydraulic system filters are only 10 micron...
I will buy this product again.
Great fit and easy to install.
Plan to change it 8X/year
Must do a great job of capturing small particles, so much so that i cannot even get 2000 miles out of a cartridge before i start blowing white smoke at engine speeds >2000 RPM due to starving the engine of fuel (too lean). Doesn't matter where i buy fuel. If you drive 15,000 miles per year, plan to change it eight times per year. You'll get good at it. Yes, protecting your injectors is a worthy goal, but 5 microns is probably overkill.
Thank you for the review, and apologize you're having issues. However, we've been selling and using in our own vehicles here this exact filter for years and have not run into this issue. The issues you're describing almost seem like with the added filtration (which is definitely not overkill), that the lift pump is failing, or has failed. Or, if you have a significant amount of contaminants in the fuel tank that is plugging the filter.
5 Micron is the way to go!
5 micron is not overkill and consider the minimum rated filter for Bosch fuel injectors. I have been running Baldwin filters for over three years and they last 5000 plus miles. Remember to purchase your fuel from a station that pumps lots of fuel per day. Diesel allowed to sit in stations tanks for extended time will be prone to contamination.
Thanks so much for the detailed review, and you're exactly correct regarding fuel stations. Old fuel equates to bad fuel.
