Give Your Powerstroke a Brake! BD Diesel Performance has been engineering and installing Powerstroke exhaust brakes ever since the first engines rolled off the production lines in 1994, in fact, they have set the standards for the industry! Kits for automatic trucks ship with a BD Pressure Loc. The BD Brake for the 6.0 Power Stroke kit features electronic controls that effectively communicate with the engines Variable Geometry Turbo and EGR valve. Automatic applications also include our Auto/Towloc system that increases the transmission clutch apply pressure, and holds the converter clutch engaged at a lower speed than would be possible with the stock configuration. Just push the Tow/Haul button and relax, the BD Brake will apply as the transmission downshifts, slowing down your 14,000 lb. load without ever having to touch the brake pedal!
The BD Brake offers retarding power without compromise. Their testing has revealed that the Powerstroke engines have an extremely durable top end, with hydraulic lifters that easily open 140-lb. valve springs. The 40 lbs. of backpressure the BD Brake generates is far below what this engine can handle, so there is no risk of valve float.
Designed for years of reliable operation, the BD Brake's rugged cast-iron housing incorporates BD's exclusive AlumiBronze bushing and piston ring-sealed butterfly shaft that has proven to stand up under the harsh, high-heat conditions of the exhaust environment. BD's exclusive Variable Orifice Technology utilizes an air cylinder on current models to actuate the offset stainless steel butterfly valve. Exhaust backpressure is maintained at a maximum of 45 psi (180 retarding horsepower) throughout the engine's working rpm range. If excessive backpressure develops, the valve opens automatically to regulate sufficient backpressure. The BD Brake provides superior retarding performance that starts at only 1200 rpm, with peak retarding power achieved by 1800 rpm! From there, it just holds on right through the rpm range. BD Brake systems designed for 6.0 liter trucks utilize air pressure from an on-board air compressor included with the kit. All BD Brake kits come complete with all necessary hoses, brackets, mounting hardware and instructions.
Please choose from the options if your truck has a manual or auto transmission and if you are running stock or aftermarket exhaust. We strongly recommend upgrading your exhaust now if you are thinking about doing it in the future. The stock exhaust kits will not work on a aftermarket exhaust system. BD DIESEL TRANSMISSION UPGRADESTransmissions have a singular but ambitious challenge - to transfer all the torque from the diesel engine to the drive wheels. This must be accomplished while maintaining shift quality and minimizing NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). With stock or OE configurations, this capacity challenge is somewhat less than extraordinary. Comparatively, a high output diesel that develops 2-4 times the original engine torque and keeping stellar driving characteristics at this power level becomes a new feat. Utilizing the latest technology in CAD and FEA simulation, BD can predict and eliminate failures before they happen. The dedicated team of BDs Transmission and Torque Convertor Department are true experts in the development and analysis of the diesel transmission.
BD EXHAUST BRAKESBD built its reputation on exhaust brakes starting in the early 90's with many casting designs for both engine and remote mount air actuated systems. Rugged cast-iron bodies with an offset stainless steel butterfly build peak efficiency quickly.
BD TURBO UPGRADESThe turbocharger industry is a special industry for BD and remains a key technological asset. When looking at BDs experienced staff, the majority of their key staff members have been developed in or around this technology. BD FUELING UPGRADESOwing to its heritage as a diesel fuel systems specialist, BD Diesel Truck Service & Performance Center is a factory-certified Bosch, Stanadyne, Delphi and Zexel calibration and repair lab. They are one of a select few injection shops in North America to have Bosch Common Rail parts and an overhaul and testing franchise. BD Diesel rebuilds most all mechanical and electronically-controlled fuel pumps and injectors for diesel engine applications.
