    We at Diesel Power Products offer a deferred core program in which we allow you to defer the typical upfront core charge when purchasing via credit card payment. All cores, whether the core charge was deferred or not, must be returned within 21 days from delivery date of product requiring core charge. Failure to do so can result in forfeiture of the entire core charge return. In the event you originally deferred the core charge, you authorize Diesel Power Products to charge you for the core charge.

    All cores must be returned to the original warehouse that original shipment was sent from. If a return label is provided in the original shipment, use this tag. If one is not included, contact us immediately, and we can provide you with the correct address of where the core(s) must be returned to, as well as an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number. DO NOT rely on the return address on the original label as a source for where to ship to.

    If cores are shipped to the incorrect warehouse, your core money will be returned less the shipping cost for us to send the core(s) to the correct warehouse, or if you deferred the core you may be charged for the shipping amount.

    Cores that have been disassembled and/or have missing and/or damaged major components will not receive full core credit. Returned cores must be on a "like-for-like" basis, meaning that the returned core has the exact same fitment as the remanufactured component that was purchased. In the event that the core is not "like-for-like," your core may not be eligible for return / credit.

    Diesel Power Products has the right to alter this policy (i.e. extend the terms) for any reason. If you have an outstanding circumstance, contact us.

    What is a "Core Charge"?

    In order to understand what a core charge is, you must first understand what a core is. In the automotive industry, most products are manufactured from brand new materials. However, numerous products are also remanufactured, meaning that the manufacturer of the product takes a used product, typically removed from a vehicle, disassembles, and replaces all worn components of the master product. A great example of this is in regards to automatic transmissions in which the manufacturer takes an existing transmission, replaces all of the inner working components, such as the torque converter, valve body, etc. and merely reuses the case.

    Because aftermarket manufacturers require a steady stream of incoming cores to build, they charge a deposit on the core, known as a core charge, that is refunded upon receipt. In some cases, the core is not reusable, such as in the event of a cracked case, at which point the core deposit would not be credited as the core component is not reusable.

    If you plan on returning your core you have two options.

    OPTION 1:
    You can accept it, which means you will be charged for the part AND the core at time of purchase. You still have the option to send it back, and if you do, the core will be refunded back on the card used, presuming the core meets core criteria and the core is returned within 21 business days from originally receiving your order. If you have outstanding circumstances that would not allow the return to occur within 21 days, please contact us.

    OPTION 2 You can defer the core charge. If you defer it, you will not be charged a core at time of purchase. You will have 21 business days from the day you receive it to send it back. As long as the core is received within the 21 business days, you will not be charged. If 21 business days goes by and you do not send it back, the card on file will be charged the core amount. You still may send it back, and once received, we will issue the core amount as in store credit, pending any limitations as set forth by the manufacturer.Core deferral is limited to payment by credit card only.

The marrying of the 68RFE transmission in a Dodge is almost as important as the marrying of a Cummins in a Dodge. For YEARS, Dodge has put lackluster transmissions behind the Cummins powerhouse, and have regrettably developed a poor reputation for it. When the 2007.5 6.7L was released, it came featuring the 68RFE, and it was proven to be a good choice. This new six speed automatic has proven itself to be able to handle a TON more abuse compared to its predecessors. But with any transmission, it has its limitations.

There are many of those whom have already pushed the limits of their transmission with performance enhancements and hauling heavy loads that know all too well how much is too much for the 68RFE. BD transmissions are designed to take on what most 68RFE owners are looking for - responding with smooth sharp shifts to keep the engine in the torque range required.

BD has done extensive research to determine the failure points of the 68RFE and to correct them. For instance, BD's 68RFE pumps have a new regulator valve design, and along with a new valve body separator plate and pressure control module, can deliver up to 250 PSI clutch apply pressure. This provides 150% MORE holding force above stock, in order to help prevent clutch slippage. Also, BD's 68RFE Electronic Pressure Controller dynamically adjusts the hydraulic apply pressures based on APPS, which is used in governing engine loads and responsiveness through transmission gear selection. the module's dynamic control ramps up in the much larger sweep right up to 250 PSI mainline pressure as needed dynamically. This is NOT accomplished with any other aftermarket engine tuner.

All the clutch packs and drums have new machined designs with the maximum amount of heat/energy/capacity in mind. Special machining has been done to the second gear piston to incorporate additional thick as stock clutch fiber and steel plates. The fourth gear apply piston has been modified to accept new heavier BILLET retainer and a steel girdle is applied to strengthen the piston and give a broader apply area.

The low and reverse sprag clutch with dog-bone style dawgs that bind and wedge themselves into destruction are also replaced with a BD EXCLUSIVE, heavy duty constructed cam and roller style one-way clutch, preventing these explosive failures.

Each transmission is dyno tested and comes with BD's heavy duty deep sump aluminum transmission pan to add strength to the case preventing flexing and internal oil leakage.

BD BIG STACK ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The factory 68RFE features a poorly designed overdrive clutch pack and shaft, which can lead to premature failure of the transmission. While many companies will merely produce thinner clutches in order to increase the clutch count, because the clutches are already relatively thin, in the 68RFE this is not the best option. BD determined a method that when combined with their Big Stack Overdrive Shaft, allows for additional clutches made from QT100 for less deflection, less wear, and substantially more holding capacity.

  • BD's large overdrive clutch spline and beefy high strength billet QT100 reaction plates ensure less deflection and more uniform clutch face engagement.
  • BD's exclusive design gives an additional four overdrive clutches - 16 total - for torque holding capacity of 33% over stock!

SHIPPING POLICY Due to the size and weight of transmissions, they cannot be shipped through traditional couriers, such as UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc. and MUST be shipped via truck freight. We do not offer free shipping on transmissions, however, we do offer a very competitive flat rate charge that is added to your shopping cart at checkout. Further, to aid in returning your core transmission, we give you the option to be billed up front for the core return and we will coordinate the pickup and return of your transmission. Once your core transmission is ready for pick up, you just need to give us a call or send us an e-mail with your original order number and the core tag on the transmission, and we'll take care of the rest. Otherwise, we give you the option to coordinate the return shipping on your own and independently pay your courier of choice. Sad Dodge can't build this as standard equipment.
Don't you love spending over 5k for something that should have been in the truck from the factory. It never ceases to amaze me how U.S. truck manufactures can't seem to make a decent automatic transmission for their trucks given the ridiculous prices they charge..

Thank you for the review, very glad the new transmission is working well for you. But agreed, Dodge has been plagued time and again with transmission issues that started even with the 1st Gens. Many were hopeful that the 68RFE would be the end all, but it has proven to really not be anymore reliable than its predecessors.

What's this transmission rated for?? In comparison to stock how much stronger??

The 68RFE naturally is rather fragile. If I had to rate this transmission I would say 550-600 hp. It has the ability to hold 150 percent more then stock.

Will this transmission handle approximately 750hp with billet shaft and triple disc converter??

You would need to start off with the Performance plus transmission. This has a pre-installed billet input shaft. You would also require their torque converter to match. With those items all together we would rate it at the 700hp mark.

For that amount of HP you would want to go with the billet input shaft, which is PN: BD-1064264B. -Ben

will this transmission hold up to at least 500 to 600 hp without a billet imput shaft, and what torque converter would you recommend??

I would recommend using that up to 600hp without a billet shaft. I would shoot for a transmission with a billet shaft and a triple disc converter. -Sands
