Get a strange crackling noise under hard acceleration either on the street or on the dyno? If you are running a pressure box or perhaps a Smarty with the rail pressure setting turned up, chances are that you have popped your rail pressure relief valve. The best way to determine this is to pull the bolt on the top of the fuel rail off, and if there is fuel visible, the valve is shot. Comes complete with rail pressure sensor and fuel pressure limiting valve. It is cheaper to buy this complete rail assembly than to purchase the valve individually.
Unfortunately, if you plan on continuing to run electronics that increase rail pressure the problem will probably come back. There are several ways to do away with the relief valve all together including putting a special bolt in them or installing an Industrial Injection Dual Feed Line. After blowing the relief in our 2007 5.9L, we installed the II Dual Feed and have had no rail related issues since.
