Running a big single turbo or twins? Head studs are a must if you are pushing in excess of 45psi of boost. Why take the chance of ruining your day at the track or worse, doing permanent engine damage. With performance enthusiasts adding increasing amounts of turbo boost to diesel applications, ARP has provided an extra measure of security in the form of extra-strong head studs manufactured from the firm's proprietary Custom Age 625+ material that has a minimum rating of 260,000 psi tensile strength. They are engineered to provide the clamping force required to keep cylinder heads from lifting due to exceptionally high combustion pressures.

ARP also offers head stud kits made from ARP2000 (220,000 psi minimum) for the Dodge/Cummins plus Chevy Duramax diesel, Ford 7.3L Powerstroke diesel, and 6.0L Powerstroke. The stud kits include heat-treated chrome moly steel nuts (12-point) and parallel ground washers.

The studs are manufactured in ARP's Santa Paula, CA plant, with threads rolled after heat treat to provide optimum fatigue strength. They are centerless ground to assure perfect concentricity. The ends of the studs are broached to facilitate easy installation. This feature also enables the cylinder head to be removed in tight quarters.

Good insurance for a 2nd gen swap
Go for the 625's, never have to worry about your head gasket again. Best insurance for a 2nd gen swap.

Last review for the day and then I have to get back to work. Up for review is the ARP CA625 head studs. What can I say, has anybody ever received a bad ARP product?? I haven't. Now let's tackle the elephant in the room.. 1200$?? ya that's right and you don't even get ARP stickers or a T-shirt.. But what you do get is the best quality head stud in the world. For the record, the CA625 material used for these studs is used in a lot of other applications not just diesel. They have the proven history of success to go with them. They come in a box and are individually sleeved for protection, as you would hope. They have a stainless look to them so they are noticeably different than the 425's. If I recall right the torque settings are a bit higher also. Install factor is a bit higher due to the process itself. I give it a 4 on the hard to do scale. Not scary just take your time. ARP includes instructions and they say you can do the ""one at a time"" replacement of your factory bolts to keep from pulling the head off. With the absurd cylinder pressures in modified diesel engines, I would have to assume this is the one thing you wouldn't skimp on. Will the other work fine?? Maybe, but these are twice as nice for twice the price.. Install time will vary given what else you are doing. I was doing a cam swap so my time frame is irrelevant. Leaving the head on I would say 4-6 hours to do a quality job and no snafu's, replacing the head gasket way would double the time plus a trip to have your head milled and time to check your block deck for straightness. As for these. I have no complaints and no failures. ARP says if you use the moly lube they supply and follow the directions properly you can reuse them should you ever have the need to pull the head (like piston/rod swap later). Price is fair but hard to swallow lol. You won't be disappointed. Like so many other parts you really won't be able to appreciate the beauty because half of them are not in sight. You can rest assured that when your boost gage creeps on up into the 60's, these things have your back... 5 star approved..

Real ARP CA625s
It took 3 of us 8 hours to install. Keep in mind the longer studs are for the exhaust side and you will need to notch the aluminum valve cover to clear the back stud no big deal.

Necessity
I decided to get these because I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems if in the future I decided to add more modifications.
