SunCoast's Category 3 rebuild kit for the 48RE in 2003-2007 Dodge Diesels contain the essentials to rebuilding your transmission. This kit is recommended for customers seeking to build the stock 48RE with improvements made to the band, band actuation, servos, accumulator piston, torque converter and input shaft. With the addition of a billet intermediate servo, billet band anchor and billet band strut, this kit addresses commonly known shortcomings of the 48RE transmission. Rated for 600HP, this kit also comes with a new billet blueprinted 4.4 band lever as well as a new thrust washer kit containing selections for setting endplay.
Another addition to this kit is SunCoast's billet one piece input shaft. The shaft is made from 300 maraging steel and is then heat treated and stress relieved to handle the demands of higher torque and stress loads from towing and street use. There's no need to worry about fitment either, as each shaft is precision ground to make it a true drop-in replacement.
The Category 3 48RE master rebuild kit also includes a band upgrade. SunCoast includes a substantial upgrade from the factory transmission by crossing over to a billet rigid band. The band is CNC machined from billet steel and then lined with carbon graphite lining to ensure unmatched performance over any manufacturer.
SunCoast Category 3 48RE rebuild kits also include an upgraded flexplate. The factory 48RE flexplate is replaced by SunCoast's billet 48RE one-piece unit. The billet 48RE flexplate exceeds 29.3 SFI certification and it's one piece design is CNC machined from a single forging. Specific reliefs are machined out from between the converter mounting area and the crank flange to enable minimal designed torsional flex.
The last upgrade to this kit is the addition of new apply pistons for both forward and direct. SunCoast Category 3 48RE master rebuild kits replace the factory cast pistons with new billet apply pistons. The direct piston is also included with new custom calibrated springs and the forward piston is replaced with a new billet piece. These improvements allow higher clamping forces without any deflection providing a much more direct shift feel and eliminating potential cross leaks within the drum.
