When it comes to increasing the ride quality, offroad capabilities, and ride height of your truck, the brand Carli Suspension is a top recommendation with their full line of complete suspension systems. That said, many prefer to simply use parts of Carli’s complete systems in order to tailor their own suspension system. A great example of this is Carli’s Coil Springs being used as a standalone upgrade to either a stock truck or one with an existing leveling kit to further improve ride quality or fit some larger tires under the truck.

When trying to determine which Carli Coil Springs are right for you, they make it relatively simple. As an example, for those with a 3rd Gen Ram (2003-2009 model years), you just have two choices based on lift height, either a 3” or 6”, with the 3” leveling springs being the most popular. In most cases, there will be options for two lift heights to choose from and the coils that will level the ride height are the most popular as they can be installed with really no other modifications to the truck, yet still deliver an impressive improvement.

One thing you may notice when shopping, though, are different spring rate terms for various model year ranges of trucks. As an example, the 1994-2009 Rams have what is called a “Multi-Rate” spring where the 2005+ SuperDuty has a “Linear” rate spring. As the names imply, a multi-rate spring features tighter winds at the bottom that increase in width towards the top. Conversely, a linear rate spring has the same spacing between each wind of the coil. Why the difference? Upon initial testing of a new suspension system, Carli will build multiple prototype options and determine which is the best application based on whether the truck has radius versus control arms, the amount of lift, and other options that must be taken into account, then make a determination for the right type of coils.

Overall, upgrading the coil springs on your Ram or Ford will deliver a very noticeable, seat-of-the-paints difference in ride quality, whether its on the street, bumpy backroads, or when off-road.

Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions regarding Carli Suspension Coil Springs that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: Whats the difference between Multi-Rate and Linear Rate Coil Springs?
A: When shopping for a set of Carli springs, you will not be given the option for a specific vehicle to choose between Multi-Rate and Linear Rate, but yes, you will see different vehicle applications vary between the two. Ultimately, the decision comes down to Carli when going through the initial R&D phase of product development to determine which type of spring works best with a particular type of vehicle. A multi-rate spring will have tighter coils on end end versus the other, creating a "progressive" type of rate. Conversely, linear rate springs feature equal spacing between each coil for the most part.

Q: I've heard that replacing my existing coil springs with Carli springs will help to improve my ride quality. Can I replace just the springs or are other parts necessary?
A: While its not ideal to only replace your coil springs, its common practice, at least up to a certain amount of total lift height. For instance, you wouldn't ever want to install a set of 6" lift coil springs on a stock truck. However, in general a set of 3" springs will work. Now, is it perfect? No. When lifting your truck, not only are you overextending the existing shocks that were more than likely not designed for the added lift height, but due to the triangulation design of your front end, your axle is now shifted towards the back and towards the drivers side of the vehicle. In order to fix this issue, an adjustable track bar and replacement control or radius arms are typically utilized to regain proper axle alignment.

Q: I'd like to improve my ride quality, but I don' want to lift the front of my truck. Does Carli offer stock height coil springs?
A: No, Carli does not offer stock height coil springs but in most cases they offer mild amounts of lift that are acceptable, or even preferred, by most.
