The 1994-1997 Ford 7.3 Powerstroke, often known as the OBS (Old Body Style) Powerstroke, remains a favorite among diesel enthusiasts for its legendary durability and straightforward mechanics. Owning a 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke means you have a robust and reliable engine under the hood. However, to maximize its potential, performance upgrades are essential. At Diesel Power Products, we provide a comprehensive range of parts designed to enhance your truck's power, efficiency, and longevity. Whether you’re seeking more horsepower, improved fuel economy, or enhanced durability, we have the right parts for your truck.

Upgrading your 7.3 Powerstroke can significantly boost improve its performance. Casserly Injectors, known for their superior fuel delivery and atomization, boost both power and efficiency, restoring the vitality of older engines. For those looking to fine-tune their truck's performance, TS Performance 6 Position Chips and Edge Revolver Chips offer customizable tuning options, allowing you to switch between different power levels to match your driving conditions.

Enhancing your exhaust system with a Diamond Eye 3" 2-piece downpipe and an Aeroturbine muffler improves exhaust flow, reduces backpressure, and increases horsepower. These systems not only enhance performance but also lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), crucial for maintaining engine health under heavy loads. AFE and S&B air intakes are designed to ensure your engine receives cold, dense air, improving turbo response, power, and fuel efficiency.

Turbo upgrades, such as upgrading to .84 and 1.0 A/R turbo exhaust housings, significantly enhance turbo response and overall engine performance by reducing turbo lag and improving throttle response. Additionally, BD and Pacbrake exhaust brakes provide superior control when towing heavy loads, enhancing safety and reducing wear on your truck's traditional braking system. Monitoring your engine’s vital statistics with ISSPRO Gauges allows you to keep track of boost pressure, EGTs, and fuel pressure, helping to prevent potential issues and maintain peak performance.

We get a lot of calls and e-mails each day with various product, vehicle, and installation questions. Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: I'm looking at your six position chip options (TS, Edge Revolver, DP-Tuner), and I'm not sure if my truck is a California edition or not. What does that mean?
A: Specifically for the 1995-1997 models, the California trucks came from the factory with what are known as split shot injectors, similar to that of the 1999-2003 7.3L's, in an effort to reduce emissions on these earlier models. In short, the split shot injects a small amount of fuel before the main injection event and requires different tuning. In order to tell the difference, inspect the white sticker on the core support of the truck. It will say California Emissions or Federal Emissions. If you're still not sure, pull the PCM code from the PCM to avoid any issues. You can typically do this by taking a cell phone video of your PCM under the dash by literally waving your phone around your PCM. Otherwise, you will need to physically remove the PCM and check the decal on the unit itself.

Q: What are the common issues with the 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke?
A: The 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke is renowned for its toughness, but it can face some common issues such as injector wear, turbocharger failures, and exhaust manifold leaks. Injector wear can lead to poor fuel atomization and reduced power. Turbocharger failures often manifest as loss of boost pressure and increased exhaust smoke. Exhaust manifold leaks can cause a decrease in engine performance and fuel efficiency. Regular maintenance and using high-quality parts can help mitigate these problems. Upgrading to robust injectors and a durable exhaust system can significantly enhance the reliability and performance of your truck.

Q: How can I improve the performance of my 7.3 Powerstroke?
A: Enhancing your 7.3 Powerstroke’s performance involves several key upgrades. Upgrading your injectors can restore and improve fuel delivery and combustion efficiency. Installing a performance chip or programmer can optimize your engine’s tuning for more power and better fuel economy. Upgrading the exhaust system and air intake can enhance airflow, leading to significant performance gains. Additionally, installing monitoring gauges can help you keep track of your engine’s vital statistics, allowing for timely interventions and maintenance.

Q: Are the parts for different model years within 1994-1997 Powerstroke the same?
A: While many parts are compatible across the 1994-1997 model years, there can be differences in certain components. For example, early and late 1994 models might have slight variations in parts. It's essential to check compatibility when ordering parts. If you’re unsure, our team at Diesel Power Products can help you find the right parts for your specific model year, ensuring a perfect fit and optimal performance.

Q: How do I choose the right parts for my 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke?
A: Choosing the right parts for your 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke depends on your performance goals and current setup. If you're looking to increase power, consider upgrading your injectors and turbocharger. For improved fuel efficiency, a high-flow air intake and exhaust system can make a significant difference. Our experts at Diesel Power Products can guide you through the selection process, recommending the best upgrades and modifications to meet your specific needs. We ensure you get the most out of your truck by providing tailored advice and high-quality parts.

Q: I'm looking at an exhaust kit on your website, but it doesn't state which cab and bed configuration it fits, will this fit my application?
A: In most cases, unless it is specifically stated as fitting a certain configuration, all exhaust kits on our website will fit all cab and bed lengths. Further, most kits will not fit cab and chassis applications unless otherwise noted.

Q: I'm looking at this 5" (or other) exhaust kit, but my truck only has a 4" exhaust now. Does this 5" exhaust include an adapter / reducer?
A: Yes, the exhaust systems we sell will adapt down to fit the application at the designated starting point (turbo back, cat back, DPF back, etc.) for a hassle free installation.

Q: What are EGT's?
A: EGT stands for Exhaust Gas Temperature, which is the temperature of the exhaust leaving your engine. This measurement is typically measured before the turbo to ensure you are not overheating components. For most applications, we recommend not exceeding 1300 degrees.
