Note that, because the heat riser is activated electronically, there is typically a 2-3 second delay between the time the valve is actuated and engine retarding occurs. While the BrakeLoc is an economical alternative to an exhaust brake, it is not intended as a substitute. For quicker, more effective braking, we recommend the vacuum-actuated BD Brake exhaust brake system, which utilizes BD's exclusive Variable Orifice Technology, and won't stick like the stock heat riser can.

Will this set up work on the 1989 7.3 IDI motor with an automatic transmission??
This will not work on this application no.
Does this sound and work like a traditional Jake brake??
No it is not a compression type engine brake. Such a thing does not exist for a 7.3. Just the exhaust brakes which is going to sound like you pinched the exhaust off. DppSands
