Exhaust Brakes | 1999-2003 Ford 7.3 Powerstroke

All 1999-2003 Powerstrokes equipped with an automatic transmission will require a torque converter lockup for full exhaust brake function. The reason this is required is due to the fact that on these trucks, when the accelerator pedal is released, the torque converter goes into a kind of free spin, similar to depressing the clutch pedal on a manual transmission, thus not transferring 100% of the braking through the drivetrain to the rear tires. This feature comes standard on certain kits specifically intended for automatic transmission equipped trucks, where other manufacturers sell it separately.
