    Terms & Conditions

We at Diesel Power Products offer a deferred core program in which we allow you to defer the typical upfront core charge when purchasing via credit card payment. All cores, whether the core charge was deferred or not, must be returned within 21 days from delivery date of product requiring core charge. Failure to do so can result in forfeiture of the entire core charge return. In the event you originally deferred the core charge, you authorize Diesel Power Products to charge you for the core charge.

All cores must be returned to the original warehouse that original shipment was sent from. If a return label is provided in the original shipment, use this tag. If one is not included, contact us immediately, and we can provide you with the correct address of where the core(s) must be returned to, as well as an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number. DO NOT rely on the return address on the original label as a source for where to ship to.

If cores are shipped to the incorrect warehouse, your core money will be returned less the shipping cost for us to send the core(s) to the correct warehouse, or if you deferred the core you may be charged for the shipping amount.

Cores that have been disassembled and/or have missing and/or damaged major components will not receive full core credit. Returned cores must be on a "like-for-like" basis, meaning that the returned core has the exact same fitment as the remanufactured component that was purchased. In the event that the core is not "like-for-like," your core may not be eligible for return / credit.

Diesel Power Products has the right to alter this policy (i.e. extend the terms) for any reason. If you have an outstanding circumstance, contact us.

    What is a "Core Charge"?

In order to understand what a core charge is, you must first understand what a core is. In the automotive industry, most products are manufactured from brand new materials. However, numerous products are also remanufactured, meaning that the manufacturer of the product takes a used product, typically removed from a vehicle, disassembles, and replaces all worn components of the master product. A great example of this is in regards to automatic transmissions in which the manufacturer takes an existing transmission, replaces all of the inner working components, such as the torque converter, valve body, etc. and merely reuses the case.

Because aftermarket manufacturers require a steady stream of incoming cores to build, they charge a deposit on the core, known as a core charge, that is refunded upon receipt. In some cases, the core is not reusable, such as in the event of a cracked case, at which point the core deposit would not be credited as the core component is not reusable.

If you plan on returning your core you have two options.

    OPTION 1:
You can accept it, which means you will be charged for the part AND the core at time of purchase. You still have the option to send it back, and if you do, the core will be refunded back on the card used, presuming the core meets core criteria and the core is returned within 21 business days from originally receiving your order. If you have outstanding circumstances that would not allow the return to occur within 21 days, please contact us.

OPTION 2 You can defer the core charge. If you defer it, you will not be charged a core at time of purchase. You will have 21 business days from the day you receive it to send it back. As long as the core is received within the 21 business days, you will not be charged. If 21 business days goes by and you do not send it back, the card on file will be charged the core amount. You still may send it back, and once received, we will issue the core amount as in store credit, pending any limitations as set forth by the manufacturer.Core deferral is limited to payment by credit card only.

Positive shifts, increased clutch holding power! An economical way to improve the performance and clutch life of your stock transmission is to install a BD Performance Valve Body. Our complete upgrade of the stock valve body consists of new valve designs, increased capacity springs, revised oil circuits and optimized governor piston dimensions which the improved oil flow reduces temperatures and lowers torque converter evacuation time for quicker clutch apply.

BD's valve body achieves up to 80% higher clutch apply pressures over the stock unit and up to 50% over the competitors with the increase starting at much lower engine rpm's and at lighter throttle pedal position movement. Light throttle shift firmness is also maintained at these higher apply pressures. This building process also eliminates the often referred to "Shuttle Shifting" or hunting-for-gears in the 48RE transmissions.

With the new designed valve bodies achieving the higher pressures, a BD PressureLoc is no longer needed when an exhaust brake is installed to assist in preventing convertor lock up clutch slippage this unit does it all! BD also added second gear lock-up capability that with the addition of one of our TorqLoc or TowLoc kits can offer serious engine retarding capability on towing applications.

Each valve body is tested to ensure proper function before shipping. While you're replacing the valve body, add one of our heavy duty aluminum oil pans for greater oil capacity, cooler oil temperature and improved case rigidity.

Great improvement in shifting. Overall better tranny performance. Also got the new selenoid (shuttle shift) and new sensor put in at the same time. Great addition.

Great valve body for my 2006 megacab with 48re. I previously had a shift kit that would really jerk the truck between shifts, and with this valve body, the shifts aren't as harsh, but at the same time the higher pressure really helps hold the power with my smarty turned up. Also noticed that I have no more shuttle shifting or early shifts from 2-3. It's a lot more driveable now. Very happy, and highly recommended.

This valve body was a definite improvement over stock on my 03 1ton. I have not yet had a chance to hook up to my 37 foot toy hauler for the ultimate test. This is a perfect set up loving it.
Doing it's job!
I have a early '03 3500 dually QC Laramie Sport 4x4 that came with the 250 HP Cummins version. It's a tad underpowered when pulling heavy & I made some common upgrades. At 100K the 47 series trans was tired and rebuild with BD' s VB, aftermarket TC. The first thing I noticed was the converter staying locked all most to a stop. Nice firm shifts under power, soft when not. It's been 2 yrs since installation and don't have a single complaint. I do use a Smarty POD tuner which I leave on tow tune. Even with the Smarty turned up, all defaults off, the BD VB plays nice and doesn't cause any issues. Been debating about purchasing a exhaust brake, but I no longer tow and only use my truck during our Alaska winters. With a tad over 30K miles on my trans with the BD VB, you can't go wrong.

I would buy this again
The truck seems to pull harder in each gear and it shifts a lot better. I installed this in a 2006 Mega Cab

Thanks so much for the review. Upgrading the valve body on a 48RE definitely makes a big difference in the shift quality (not so sluggish between shifts) for more power to the ground.

I would suggest to anyone having shift issues
Firmed up shifts and fixed the 1-3 shuttle sift proble I was having.

Thank you for the review. What you were experiencing is a common 48RE issue, but yes, the BD valve body specifically addresses this and cures it in most cases.

Best upgrade for the 48re
When i rebuilt my transmission i installed a trans-go shift kit. The bd valve body is much better. It shifts a lot smoother but still firm. It fixed the ""2-3 hunting problem"" associated with the 48re and larger tires. The installation instructions are easy to follow and thorough.

Thank you for the review. BD does a great job with their valve body upgrades that ensure a smooth, yet crisp shift pattern.

hi - do I need something else beside the gasket? - is it plug and play type - is the original pan is good to receive this valve body or? thanks Denis?

You will need fluid and BD recommends a tube of red Transgel to aid in re-installation. The original pan works fine. The electronics from your valve body need to be transferred over. Or you need to purchase new electronics for it(Gov Pressure Solenoid & Transducer). BD sells a valve body with the electronics upgrade for 773 plus core.

I have an exhaust brake now is there anything special I need to add ??

No nothing needs to be modded on the valve body.

I currently have a 2003 dodge 3500 with a fully built BD transmission. I am experiencing the 2-3 shuttle that is described in the description. Is this part a guaranteed fix for that issue??

If it is fully built it would have that valve body in it. We couldn't garuntee it will fix your issue no. I would contact BD diesel and talk to one of their transmission techs about that issue.

Does this include the governor pressure solenoid?... it looks like it might be pictured off telhe right side of the valve body in the picture?

Hi Jacob The part number you are asking about does not come with any electronics. So to answer your question, no, it does not come with the governor pressure solenoid. If you are looking for a BD valve body that does, I would consider PN: BD-1030423E.
