The air cleaner assembly is where your engine begins making power. Without adequate airflow as part of the equation, your Duramax simply cannot breathe, resulting in poor performance and fuel economy, coupled with high exhaust gas temperatures (EGT's). While the design of the stock intake is relatively efficient and GM did add a functional air scoop to the hood for the L5P models, upgrading to a higher flowing aftermarket system can drastically improve overall airflow, delivering better overall engine performance and efficiency.
