The advent of aftermarket air bags to be added to the suspension of a vehicle was a game changer in delivering additional load carrying capacity that would not effect the ride quality of an unloaded truck. However, for those of us that enjoy taking our vehicles off of a paved highway, they act as a limit strap, not allowing the suspension to properly cycle, diminishing offroad ride quality and performance. Full Travel Bags set out to eliminate this problem.

Imagine having air bags you can quickly install and uninstall within a matter of minutes. That's basically what Full Travel Bags do. But lets step back and discuss what led to Full Travel Bags. As we've already mentioned, having a truck equipped with air bags is awesome for when you're towing by allowing you to add or remove air to level out your truck based on varying payloads or tongue weight, something that a simple leaf spring just can't accomplish. That said, an airbag's compressed versus extended length is not very much, 5" on average. That's five inches your suspension can move up and down before crushing or overextending the bag. The goal was to essentially have your cake and eat it too and that's just what Brad, the owner of Full Travel Bags, was able to accomplish. His passion for suspension design and degree in Mechanical Engineering led him to the development of the "Removable Spacer" (Patent Pending). With this Spacer removed and the airbags vented, your suspension is able to fully cycle without the negative influence of the airbag's spring rate and extreme travel limitation.  Your suspension will literally perform as if it does not have airbags installed! When you're ready to tow, simply install the spacer to take up the gap between the airbag and the leaf spring.

We get a lot of calls and e-mails each day with various product, vehicle, and installation questions. Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions regarding Full Travel Bags' products that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: How much effort is required to install?
A: Kits install in 2-4 hours and minimal drilling is required, but welding and bed removal are not required. Detailed instructions are provided for every system.

Q: Can I use lift blocks, add-a-packs, full replacement leaf packs, etc?
A: Yes to all. Full Travel Bags' kits are designed around factory geometry and aftermarket leaf options.

Q: I already have an air compressor/air management system on-board. Can I keep it? Do I need an onboard compressor?
A: Yes, keep your air system and tie it into the new kit. If you simply want to manually fill and vent the bags, the kit includes the plumbing components required to do so. Keep the airbags vented via the supplied ball valve when you do not need them.

Q: I already have or plan to use a 5th wheel or gooseneck setup. Is this kit compatible with these?
A: Yes, Full Travel Bags' systems are designed to function with or without Ford OEM and B&W bracketry. Please contact us to review potential compatibility with other manufacturers.

Q: What is the load capacity of the airbags?
A: At 100 psi, the force that each bag exerts is 1500lbs (both bags = 3000lbs). This means that you could place a 3000 pound load in the truck bed, air the bags up to 100psi and you would see a net zero rear end squat. The airbags are USA made with internal bump stops and are rated to handle 250 psi.

Q: Are tools required to install and remove the spacer?
A: No. It is custom designed with a spring loaded quick release latch and can be operated with just one hand.

Q: How much rear suspension travel will the system allow?
A: Droop travel is unlimited because there is no lower airbag attachment point. Compression travel varies by truck and the type of leaf spring employed. Generally speaking, your suspension travel will be limited by the shock stroke length or axle bump stops....not the airbag kit!
