2004.5-07 5.9L Dodge Cummins Automatic Transmission / Components
Your 04.5-07 5.9L Dodge Cummins diesels torque at the 1600-2200-engine rpm range challenges the transmission's clutch packs. You can improve the clutch holding power by resetting the hydraulic pressure but this can result in poor shifting patterns, setting of trouble code lights and heat build up.
The only transmission that can boast about being a full roller bearing design. Stock and other transmission rebuilders use thrust washers. This results in soft metal floating around your transmission and then eventually settles to the bottom of the pan. This metal plugs up oil pressure ports, excessive thrust bearing wear and short life. BD eliminates clutch slippage, reduces operating temperatures and increases the transmission life by adding 25% more clutch surface than the stock design. Only the best quality clutch material is used and heavy-duty band apply struts are installed. New electronic solenoids are tested and valve body control functions are set and tested. The BD valve body is built with second gear lock up and can be activated with a BD TorqLoc or AutoLoc.
Each transmission is tested on our transmission dynamometer.

For those of you just out to improve your 48RE to the point that you can use more of the settings on your Smarty programmer, Edge, Bully Dog etc. consider adding a BD Torque Converter and Valve body. For added strength go for the BD Black Flex-Plate and for extra fluid capacity add the BD transmission pan. This set-up should handle anything you throw at it other than 4x4 launches at the drag strip and sled pulling competitions. If you are going to compete at the drag strip or the pulling competitions consider adding billet input and output shafts or upgrading to a full built tranny.
